The Katapult WayHow we work

We sell time to value.

Making things got cheap. Judgment didn’t. This is how we take an idea to something real, in the hands of the people who need it, and what we ask of our team and our partners along the way.

01

The work has flipped

For decades, building software was expensive, so most of the work went into protecting ourselves from building the wrong thing: research, prototypes, decks, alignment, approvals. By the time something shipped, the market had often moved.

With agents in the loop, what used to take a team a quarter can take days. What stays scarce is judgment: understanding the problem, deciding what is worth building, and putting expert attention where quality demands it. So we don’t sell hours, and we don’t sell productivity.

02

Six moves

01

Understand the system

Before touching anything, we map the business: product, market, channel, model, and how they fit. Partners are the experts in their world; we turn that knowledge into working products.

Every standup names the limiting factor: the bottleneck that pays back fastest once removed.

02

Ship the minimum effective dose

Not the minimum. The smallest real thing, at the right level of quality. The stakes set the dial: an internal experiment moves fast; anything touching money, health, security, or real users gets gates, review, and proof.

The most boring architecture that can still grow, and honest labels for what is live and what is not.

03

Show, don’t tell

Words are cheap. Working software in the first week, not a slide deck: first to our partner, then to real users as soon as it is safe.

Every day can be demo day. Feedback on a real thing beats agreement on an imagined one.

04

Build the machine that builds the machine

The product is half the work. The other half is the system around it: code any person or agent can pick up, a living backlog, feedback flowing straight into it, and guardrails instead of approval chains.

People stay in the loop at every critical step, then delegate more as trust is earned.

05

Turn every mistake into a rule

When something breaks, we fix the system that produced it, not just the instance. We write the postmortem and prove things instead of asserting them.

Every hard rule in our repos is a dated lesson, so the machine gets smarter every week.

06

Hand off, and compound

A small, senior strike team finds the bottleneck, ships the first value, and builds the machine. Once the return is proven, a long-term team takes over and keeps building.

Everything belongs to our partner: the code, the accounts, the know-how.

03

How an engagement runs

  1. 01

    Understand the system

We map your business (product, market, channel, model) and find the limiting factor: the bottleneck that pays back fastest once removed.

  2. 02

    Strike team

A small senior team ships working software in the first weeks, first to you, then to real users as soon as it’s safe.

  3. 03

    Build the machine

Code any person or agent can pick up, a living backlog, feedback loops, and guardrails, with people in the loop where quality demands it.

  4. 04

    Long-term team

Once the return is proven, a build-and-maintain team takes over and keeps compounding. Everything we build is yours.

For Team Augmentation, we also recruit, vet, and place senior builders on our payroll, and handle onboarding, HR, and replacements.

04

In practice

A partner came to us with a vibe-coded prototype that was already proving its value. To build the next version of their vision, it needed a foundation that could carry mobile apps and new products, and let us pick up speed. Seven days from first commit to cutover, with every member and contribution migrated and verified, and the old and new platforms run side by side, page by page, before we switched.

“Parity proven, not asserted.”
05

Beyond software

It rarely stops at software. The machine that builds the machine is also human: how the organization is shaped, who does what, and why. So we reimagine those activities from first principles, ours and our partners’: what to rebuild, what to automate, and what to let go of.

Rebuild

  • Customer onboarding
  • Discovery & strategy

Automate

  • Reporting
  • Ticket triage
  • Routine QA

Let go

  • Status meetings
  • Approval chains
06

What it asks of all of us

Our team, and the partners we build with. It only works when everyone works this way.

  1. 01

    Be a builder by default

Engineers, designers, product, and our partners: all of us.

  2. 02

    Think in systems

Ask why before what. We are not order takers.

  3. 03

    Be direct, and kind

Hard conversations early, said with care.

  4. 04

Define success, then let it cook

Tell the agents what good looks like, get out of the way, and own the result.

  5. 05

    Learn in loops

Tools change daily, sometimes hourly. Our loops turn every change into shared value.
